Selly Oak
The exquisitely crafted St Mary’s church was founded in 1875 by the Passionists, a Catholic religious congregation, to serve the growing Catholic community in Harborne. It was further expanded over the next few decades with a new building being opened by the Bishop of Birmingham in 1911. In 1973 the Augustinian Order took over the parish and carried out additional development, adding a new church.
Following a fire risk assessment LKS began working with St Marys to replace all fire doors within the church hall, and bring the site back up to compliance. Our work with St Mary’s involved conducting a detailed site survey establishing the scale and specification of works required; creation of a comprehensive schedule of works; removal of pre-existing fire doors and installation of new fire-door sets; commissioning and sign-off; and the design and installation of a bespoke master key system to increase security throughout the building. After the projects completion, with the site brought up to full compliance, LKS continues to provide maintenance to the newly installed master key system.
